Even when nailed through his gut onto the cross, Moe Szyslak,
proprietor of Moe’s Tavern, keeps his hunched over posture and glum
face. He’s caught in the crossfire between Rainier Wolfcastle (panel
one) and Lunchlady Doris (panel three) but has no visible bullet
wounds, only stream of blood flowing from his leg. Staring in the
central panel of this Simpson’s triptych, Cavalieri intentional makes
Moe larger, to relate to the medieval images of Jesus and Mary. Because
of their biblical importance were often painted larger then the common
townspeople... though there are no findings of a 17 headed Jesus.
Cavalieri is representing UrbanGlass at SOFA Chicago this November 5-7, 2010, where this panel will have it public debut.
